Ineluctable modality of the visible:
at least that if no more, thought through my eyes
— Stephen Dedalus, from James Joyce’s Ulysses

Welcome to a selection of Wall
Photographs from around the World

I have been taking photographs in urban settings since 1995, when I was staying with friends at 101 East 16th Street in New York City, close to Union Square. The view out the back window of their apartment looked out on a most wondrous assortment of brick facades, like an underbelly of an urban block hidden from most of the world. This is an image from that first encounter.

I’m delighted to be sharing a gallery exhibition in my new home town of Trumansburg, located about 20 minutes by car from Ithaca, New York. John Gurche is an extraordinary artist-anatomist who recreates in dramatic visuals what the unearthed bones of hominins suggest to the trained and imaginative eye. Read about him at . I’ll be adding some photos of the gallery installation shortly.
