“FACING, A WALL” PHOTOGRAPHS BY JARED DAWSON
OPENING THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, AND RUNNING THROUGH SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5
ABOUT THE GALLERY
I have been interested in looking at art for 60 years. When I was very young I was most attracted to art books and world atlases that I could hardly manage to move. In my home I grew up with Seurat’s La Grande Jatte (what’s up with the monkey and the woman’s derriere?), Matisse, Klee, and Rousseau’s Sleeping Gypsy on the walls. The 1980s and 90s were years of compulsive gallery-hopping, building a collection of art, two decades of studying life drawing and art with Richard Phipps, Linda Ekstrom, Marie Schoeff, and Rick Stich, and painting and artmaking in my studio. My recent move last year to a mixed-use rental in Carpinteria CA was the catalyst for reconnecting with the rich artistic community of the Santa Barbara and Carpinteria area and creating this new business. I believe passionately about the power of creativity and art to change lives, because they have directly changed mine. I love meeting new artists and their work, and talking about what is engaging to us and why. Please come out and visit my gallery space and let’s meet! For visiting information please see the link below, but for quick reference my open days are THURSDAY, 12-5, FRIDAY, 3-8, AND SATURDAY 12-5, or you may call the gallery number below for an appointment.
The header images are details from photographs of mine taken in Hoi An, Viet Nam, in the spring of 2014.
