Courage to stand against expectation

Early this week on a walk on Sands Beach in Goleta, I came upon a rock with a shape that caught my attention. I picked it up and wrapped it in my handkerchief. When I returned home I casually placed it on its end, and was surprised when it stayed upright. For a few hours, anyway, until I heard a loud bang as it toppled over. At that point I was unable to find the balancing point again. Until this Read More …

As it happens you may find Michael Hannon reading the second volume of “Pilgrim’s Process” from his home if you simply go to YouTube and search on “Michael Hannon poetry reading”. It’s in two parts but they are listed together. These magnificent sheets of poems may be seen in my gallery until July 16 or by appointment. By the same search there is also a video titled “Who on Earth” which is a more introductory video. Check it out!

Thoughts about “Abstraction”

I got by the Santa Barbara Library’s Faulkner gallery a few days ago to see the current show that was curated by the Abstract Art Collective. My favorites of the show were Karen Zazon’s Mixed Emotions, Madeleine Garrett’s Lemon Vessels, Stephen Robeck’s Red & Gray Triptych, and Rosemarie C. Gebhart’s stunning viscosity monoprint titled Sway with Me. I always find labels such as ‘abstract’ or ‘non-representational’ problematic, although I well understand their utility and accepted meaning. This is no doubt due Read More …
